One Writer’s Productivity Routine in a Nutshell: How to Design Your Own Powerful Routine to Boost Your Productivity
A productivity routine doesn’t need to be mundane and boring—but it needs to work for you
This article is part of a series on the psychology of productivity. Start here.
Productivity psychology is the study of how we can be our most productive selves. It’s a relatively new field that’s constantly evolving.
It’s no secret. If you know how to leverage the principles of psychology and master your mind, you can supercharge your productivity.
And you can do this by incorporating the little-known secrets I outlined in my previous articles to develop a powerful daily routine.
A routine that you can call your own.
Before you go off and design your own productivity routine, let me show you mine.
You see, I’m a full-time writer living abroad with my wife. We’re currently staying in the Philippines, close to her family.
We are also expecting our first child next month. So, it’s critical I maximize my time and productive working hours.
The way I do it is like this…
- The night before a “work” day, I make a list of the most important tasks I want to accomplish the next day.
- Once I wake up and drink my coffee in the morning, I get straight to it. I go into my office, the place I set aside as my distraction-free zone.
- From there, I pull up my to-do list and immediately dive into the first and most critical task of the day. I usually keep working on this same task until it’s finished.
- If it’s a more time-consuming task, then I make sure I take frequent breaks to recharge my brain and energy levels. And when I return to my work, I get right back into the task at hand.
- I don’t stop working on tasks until I feel like I’ve accomplished at least one big task that moves my productivity or projects forward.
