What I believe all fathers should be
I’m 42 and about to be a Dad
On the prospect of Parenthood and being called “Daddy”
I took my wife to the doctor today. For the baby’s monthly checkup.
The baby is healthy. Vitals are normal.
And little human growing inside my wife’s womb is 24 weeks today.
6 months and counting.
To think, it’s been six wonderful months since we conceived our baby while honeymooning in beautiful Costa Rica.
We’re now safely back in my wife’s native country—the Philippines—living a happy life together, close to her parents and family.
The struggles that led up to our marriage abroad made it seem like we’d never be in the same country at the same time.
Especially during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, with restrictions on daily life and travel.
The Pregnancy Test
When my wife took her first pregnancy test in September last year and excitedly showed me the results, it made the struggle worth it.
Because…
All my life, I’ve wanted to be a father. To be called “Daddy.”
And with 3 months left, that dream will soon be a reality.
But as my wife and I both patiently wait for our child to be born, the baby has already blessed us with the marvel of new life.
One of the coolest things I’ve experienced so far during my wife’s pregnancy is getting to feel the kicks and taps of our baby against my wife’s belly.
The baby loves hearing my voice. Always punching or kicking in response.
Communicating with me in the only way he or she knows how.
Am I Too Old to be a Father?
The only problem—or the problem some people might see—is that I’m 42 years old. I’ll have my 43rd birthday in March.
So when the baby arrives, I’ll be 43.
Four decades in the books.
