TikTok + Books = Engaged Buyers
You might be familiar with TikTok.
The fastest growing social network in existence.
Where users create short-form videos to share within the app. A lot of the videos you’ll discover on TikTok are of ordinary people, like you and I, who dance to music tracks. But creative dance videos aren’t the only thing you’ll find on the platform.
There’s a niche for almost everything imaginable. Makeup tutorials, lip-syncing, arts and crafts, fashion. Practically anything you can think of.
And as of 2021, over 2 billion people in over 200 countries have downloaded the app. Which is about 20% of the world’s population.
And TikTok users are highly engaged. And they love to spend. That’s why it consistently ranks as the second-biggest app for consumer spending.
So marketers or anyone who sells a product—such as authors—should take notice.
And for authors, there’s one hashtag that is skyrocketing book sales in the US and across the globe.
In fact, major book retailers like Barnes & Noble are jumping on the bandwagon. Every time I’ve walked into a Barnes & Noble bookstore, there’s a dedicated table for trending books on TikTok. Showcasing many of the popular books on the platform.
So, what’s the hashtag?
As of October 2021, this one hashtag had over 23.3 billion views and engagement won’t be slowing down any time soon.
But it’s not the authors who are pushing these books. It’s teenagers and young adults who love to read books.
Sometimes you’ll find them clutching a new book they read and crying that they got to the last page.
Or creating a video listing out books they think everyone should read.
