All my life, I’ve wanted to be a successful writer.

You know, the type of writer who spits out words at record speed like Stephen King and David Eggers. Masters of the craft.

But there was one problem — I was scared to publish my work.

I mean, what if people criticized it?

What if they said it was terrible?

I didn’t want that kind of feedback. Negativity from complete strangers would’ve crushed my soul.

Plus, I didn’t want to let my mom down. I was her little angel, after all.

“Alex, I don’t know what it’ll be, but one day you’ll be successful,” she told my 5-year-old self.

I just stared at her with my tiny, beady eyes. Back then, I didn’t know what “success” or “successful” even meant.

But I knew I wanted to make my mom proud.

1/Set Your Writing Goals
