It’s the last piece of advice you think you’d hear from a hard-working, self-made billionaire entrepreneur

Elon Musk is the world’s richest man. He’s a billionaire giant in the tech industry. Leading Tesla Motors and SpaceX.

So whenever Musk talks and tweets, people often listen.

At one point, Elon Musk may have been the hardest working CEO in America. He claims he had worked 120-hours per week during the height of Telsa’s do-or-die production deadlines.

Musk’s outrageous work hours were 3-times the standard 40-hour workweek.

But it came at a price.

Overwork ≠ Happiness

But according to Musk, overworking is the root of all unhappiness.

In a 2018 interview with AXIOS for HBO, Musk spoke poignantly about his work-life balance. Or should we say, lack thereof?

Because Musk admitted in that interview, he was sleeping in the Tesla Factory.

Not only because he was too tired to drive home. But also, because he needed to be on-site to lead the company’s engineering teams during a critical time for the famed electric car manufacturer.

“No one should put this many hours into your work,” Musk said. “This is not good. People should not work this hard.”

But Musk did it for a reason.

Being the CEO of a tech company, he knew if he didn’t put in those long hours in the factory that Tesla would fail. And Musk wanted the company to succeed by meeting its production targets. Otherwise, it could’ve spelled disaster.

For Musk, it could’ve been the death of Tesla. And he wasn’t ready to see the tech company fail. If anything, he’d die trying.
